Pavano throws for 15 minutes
New York Yankees pitcher Carl Pavano threw for about 15 minutes on level ground Monday in his comeback from a shoulder injury.

Pavano's ailing right shoulder prevented him from pitching after June 27 last season, his first with New York after signing a $39.95 million, four-year contract. He finished the season 4-5 with a 4.77 ERA.

"It feels fine,'' Pavano said. "I'm very eager. I want to go out there and do my job, go out there and pitch, put up innings and wins.''

Pavano started a throwing program in December. He experienced back stiffness last month, then had tests and cleared to continue throwing.

"You have to turn the page,'' Pavano said. "Don't let history repeat itself.''

New Yankees bullpen coach Joe Kerrigan was with Pavano during his throwing session. Pavano also talked with new pitching coach Ron Guidry during the pre-spring training workout at the Yankees' minor league complex.

In other news, pitcher Chien-Ming Wang plans to pull out of the World Baseball Classic, where he was slated to be on Taiwan's roster.

"I think, no,'' Wang said when asked whether he was going to pitch in the WBC.
